New website lets male gamers pay to play with hot female gamers

OTTUMWA, IA - AUGUST 13: Five-time video game ...

Eh. I've seen hotter male gamers! Image by Getty Images via Daylife

Online gamers know what happens when a female (or a dude pretending to be female) joins a match. Every sex-starved dude pounces on her like a dog in heat. She doesn’t even need to speak if her handle contains words like “chick” or “lady”. You can guarantee that at least one tongue-wagging guy will flood her inbox with messages or attempt to harass flirt his way into her heart, completely unaware that she’s probably a hideous monster. On that note, it’s tough competing with all that testosterone, and even tougher finding a hot gamer girl, but that’s about to change, courtesy of GameCrush, the world’s first website that hooks you up with hotties who can handle two analog sticks at the same time

This news is ridiculously apt, considering my latest post on gender issues in video games…

On one hand, this sounds like a great way to make some extra cash if you are an attractive lady, but at the same time, it doesn’t really help with the whole “women aren’t respected in the gaming industry” bit. Hmm…. 30 dollars an hour? Tempting, but I must remain strong on principle…

After a session you can rate your PlayDate on her hotness, gaming skill, and flirtiness. The highest-rated girls will receive preferred placement on the site. GameCrush is assembling a team of its most highly regarded PlayDates called JaneCrush, which should be similar to Ubisoft’s Fragdolls. Members of JaneCrush will generate content for the site like blogs and editorials. GameCrush wants to turn its most popular girls into gaming stars.

This newest development might as well  say “only sexy ladies (or those that pretend to put out) have a place in the gaming industry”! And GameCrush wants to be like Ubisoft’s Frag Dolls? Please. The Frag Dolls are normal, respectable ladies that did not start out on some sleazy pay-to-play chat-roulette style game site.  I don’t know who is being exploited here, the ladies, or the “sex-starved”  males that would fork over cash…

Also, why isn’t there a website like this for girl gamers? I mean, there are some really atrocious looking male gamers and I would love to play with some attractive males.  Oh wait, I almost forgot, they wouldn’t make a site like this for women, because women aren’t that desperate-

Or maybe I am overreacting, and this will be the newest way for gamers to meet each other… What happened to the good ol’ fashioned way of falling in love with one another over the internet before you saw each others faces…. : /

  1. The barrier for soft-entering the sex trade just got lowered.

This is indeed pretty rediculous. I feel bad for anyone that is so desperate for affection that they would “pay to play” for an online date. The worst part is that I am 100% certain that there are lonely guys who are keeping this company in business. Its like a slap in the face to gamers who arent adolescent horndogs. This, and your other recent post, pretty much sum it up.

I can only imagine how annoying it has to be to be a female gamer this day and age. I have a few close friends who are girl gamers, and most of them get swamped with “hey there hun’s” from the time they log into their games. I am sure that some girls like the attention (maybe they arent getting as much as they want IRL?), but I couldnt imagine being harassed all of the time like that while I was trying to play. I think it would take alot of fun out of gaming.

Anyway, Yeah.. I think that services like this are preying on the emotional needs of lonely people, and I cant imagine why anyone would pay to use them. Do these guys honestly think that the girls they are playing with are interested in them at all? If not then why waste their time/money? What DID ever happen to the days of innocent video game romance… :X As bad as all of this sounds, I think I feel worse for anyone who is so lonely that they are willing to pay for (false) companionship. Actually scratch that.. if these guys need their e-dates to have a certain weight or breast size, then they deserve to be alone. I hope they throw all of their money away before they realize that good girls dont even try to fit that bill.

Jazzland, you are absolutely right in thinking that hounding of female players makes for a bad gaming experience. Many females will play as males, or not speak at all because it gets so annoying.

      Thanks for your comment! 🙂

  3. It’s awful, but it’ll make money.

I don’t see any overreacting in this case. Personally I don’t care much for the idea of the frag dolls either.

I’m sure they’re all lovely people, but it just seems to be that Ubisoft is preying on that same market of maladaptive males.

All this stuff does is keep games a segregated medium – and that’s to the benefit on neither gender.

    • Fruzsina Eordogh says:

      Well said Joseph Hayden…

the difference with the Frag Dolls though is they don’t hype up their sex appeal, and claim to support women who play video games…

A strange idea, but it might work.
    One can also try

This chatroulette competitior also seems fun

  5. “The GameCrush Public Beta is temporarily unavailable due to the incredible user response (more than 10,000 inquiries in five minutes). We are adding new servers to provide players with the best PlayDate experience possible. Games with GameCrush PlayDates start at $6.60 for ten minutes. ”

    Heh.

I suppose that, like it or not, female gamers are still rare enough to be considered a commodity by some. However, to quote Dr. Brooke Magnanti, “They talk about men only want one thing. It isn’t what you think it is. (It’s) to have someone who says, ‘Whatever your faults, whatever you do… You’re great.'”

I think that most “hardcore” gamer guys are obsessed with the idea of gamer girls not because gamer girls are somehow physically sexier than other girls, but because they want someone with whom they can identify and feel understood.

To say that this service is about sex is, in my opinion, to misunderstand men on a fundamental level.

    • Fruzsina Eordogh says:

Thanks for your comment, Andrew, and if what you say is true, why don’t they actually make it a dating site? Males find other females, they rank each other, etc.

The whole “rate the play date” paid for by a male, only males paying for females, the females can’t rate the males back aspects make it seem like women are a commodity (as you said), or a product to be purchased. They are providing a service.

Wouldn’t a guy want the female to play games with him without the money? That way they could actually build a “relationship”?

      • Oh, I’m afraid I may not have been clear. The site has nothing to do with building a real relationship. You’re quite right to observe that, if the goal was a genuine bond, there are more appropriate venues. I simply wanted to point out that the objective isn’t sex either, not really.

If I may again quote Dr. Brooke Magnanti, “It is about intimacy. They’re paying for intimacy. If it were just about getting off, if it was just about the orgasm, they’d have a wank and save the money.”

She was talking about the “Girlfriend Experience” type of prostitution, but I think it applies equally to this service. It’s about the fantasy. And the targeted demographic is one which is particularly prone to fulfilling their desires through fantasy.

I personally can’t imagine paying for either sex or companionship. However I don’t think there’s anything morally wrong with it.

At the risk of drawing from the same well once again, here is another quote from the good doctor:

“When you sit at a desk you sell your mind. When you dig a hole in the ground, you’re selling the strength of your arms. We’re allowed to sell everything about ourselves. People have a problem with one aspect, and that’s sex. You’re even allowed to sell your womb and have somebody else’s baby. To be a surrogate. That’s okay. People don’t condemn that to the level they condemn prostitution.”

I would agree that this service is akin to prostitution. I just don’t think there’s anything intrinsically wrong with that as long as it’s taking place between two consenting adults.

  6. h2omidnite says:

I play with female gamers all day every day and they all think this is quite terrible for them as they will have to work harder to get any respect on XBL now then what they already had to

  7. I suppose I don’t really understand the relationship between respect and sex in the mind of a woman. I don’t really understand why they are so often considered to be mutually exclusive.

Why would this site have any effect on the respect garnered by those who are not affiliated with it? Why worry about having the respect of those shallow enough to let this effect their views on women in general?
