and my personal gmail, which I sign into after work hours. Besides the gender, and the hiphop, it was somewhat accurate?

I smell a boycott… and the weird thing about this list is, how are most of these companies affected by online piracy? Especially all these clothing companies…

You could also call this a “self-promotional” post, and when I feel like updating my “about” page, I will probably replace the text with the following:

I was hired by the Daily Dot officially in June. This is my first real grown up job, so I don’t want to fuck it up. I work way more than 8 hours a day, leaving very little time for other blogging. This explains my silence across multiple platforms I used to write on.

The Daily Dot’s public beta launched in September.

Since our public beta launch in September, my work has been linked to  (or can I cheat like every other writer and say “featured”?) on The New Yorker, the New York Times, Media Bistro, TechCrunch, TechMeme, USA Today, Gawker, Venture Beat, Time Magazine, The Daily What, others I can’t even remember but appreciate dearly, and most recently, Time Out Chicago and  The Atlantic.

I was also interviewed by the Guardian, and Sky News.

Looking at the YouTube page right now, every single minute brings hundreds of positive comments. I cannot keep up reading them all. The video is 3 months old, and is the only video on the channel.

Maxwell Colette is easy to spot from down the block and across the heavily-trafficked street; tall  bright windows glow a soft yellow. The gallery is full, but not uncomfortably so, yet.

The space is warm not just in temperature and light, but also in sound.

I feel invited.

In the weeks leading up to the opening, Chicagoans might have seen the Text and Drugs and Rock & Roll stickers on poles or newspaper boxes…

I’ve seen various events try to pull this sort of viral marketing off, but Maxwell Colette has this tactic down. Remember their GAIA show?

Even I, who had been purposely avoiding reading about local art, knew about TDR&R.

Maxwell Colette’s street ambassador for this show was Brooklyn-based street artist DAIN.

DAIN is an elderly man.

See him do an on-camera interview for Brooklynite Television here.

Elle magazine, of all places, has written about him.

DAIN’s piece at the TDR&R show was prominently displayed on the left hand side of the gallery, right next to the door.

If no one made a bid for DAIN’s piece by the end of the night, Chicago’s art scene is foolish.

It is true what Chicago Reader and Flavorpill implied in their preview blurbs; TDR&R is a very well put-together show.

I was surprised to see mentions of Weed Wolf in both publications, though. He got famous when I wasn’t looking? I don’t find his scrawl impressive, but I appreciate the attempt in the below graphic:

As an Internet culture writer, I can’t help but be entertained by the smoking cats.

Goons, who is still my favorite street artist don’t let any one fool you otherwise, also contributed to the show.  His piece is unlike anything he has ever done, to date. Various pop culture references tackling the notion of self, is all I will say.

I was surprised, and happy to see Klepto Salem in the TDR&R show, as I think Salem is under-appreciated.

Left Handed Wave, who I used to call “the banana man” in my Chicago Street Art column, also made an appearance. A relatively new artist, among established greats. I can’t help but wonder at the nature of his ascent.

DAIN wasn’t the only collage artist at TDR&R; Chad Davis and Fred One Litch , who I had never heard of before, caught my eye.

I get very grumpy about collage artists, as this is the only type of art I engage in, given my inability to draw or paint. So when I see work like Davis’, I think, I can do that too.

“What’s so special about Chad Davis, huh?” I ask all sassy, with an arm akimbo.

A lot, actually.

Textured, but flat. Busy, but not. I am eager to revisit Davis,’ and Litch’s work on a quiet day.

Mr. Litch? … thanks for the inspiration.

I’ve been using plastic bags and faded vintage photographs for years, though. Just saying…

Another artist whom I had never heard of until tonight, was Chicago-based artist Bill Connors.

An acquaintance likened his work to decades-old concert posters.

The above piece reminded me of Wizards, a film I am amazed was rated PG in 1977.

(I do want to come back when the space is empty. I couldn’t absorb any of  the art. I didn’t see Hebru Brantley’s work, nor various others, so this is only a partial review, at best.  I also never introduced myself to Billy Craven, or told him how much I enjoyed his show. I think I spoke to him a couple of times, but things never clicked in my head. Opening crowds and alcohol, go figure! )

This unwanted gay thought, in what can only be assumed was a tragedy that befell these poor men, was a symptom of the  ”women don’t exist on the Internet” disease.

This time, a  x3LilPinnytjuhx3  was directly responsible.

Her username is androgynous.  When one reads it, one has to ask, was it just a random smattering of letters? Does LilPinny reference a penis? Or Miss Penny?

There is nothing that directly tells the reader x3LilPinnytjuhx3 is female.

Shame on her.

Her forgetfulness and inability to clearly portray that she is a female on the Internet, had dire consequences yesterday.

Does x3LilPinnytjuhx3 know the pain she  caused?

It is doubtful.

Thank goodness for Phobos2009USWest, for warning his fellow males of the footage between 1:40 – 1:46 .

No homo, indeed.

Today’s modern youth are preoccupied with their  sexuality,  and very easily corrupted by all the gay pride media everywhere.

Who knows what lasting consequences seeing the footage between  1:40 – 1:46 will have on young, impressionable internet-using men?

And what about all the gay positive TV these days!?

Such incidents can be avoided in the future if women clearly labeled themselves as females, especially if they are ogling males.

Unwanted homoerotic thoughts are dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.

God knows, the Internet is for men to ogle at women, not the other way around!

I first came upon Rachel Welch, like most of America,  when I watched One Million Years B.C.  (Starting the Earth’s Children book series in Junior High will do that) It is only fitting that I begin this video list with a compilation of her from One Million Years B.C.

I don’t expect you, dear reader, to watch all of the above video, but I do expect you to watch all of the one below. It’s only 3 minutes long, and while there is no dialog until the very end, I can promise it is engaging. It’s literally one of the best fan compilations on YouTube.

Next up is a scene from the movie Fathom. There are plenty of scenes on YouTube from this movie, but this clip is notable for the boat-owning man wearing a monocle. Oh yeah, and Welch’s green bikini.

The three minute  title opening scene in Fathom, with Welch handling a parachute, is also good viewing if you’re not pressed for time.  This video of excerpts of Welch in Bluebeard is also fun. She admits to sleeping with a Hungarian… and she meets her doom once she admits frolicking with a communist.

Other half of that interview is here, and discusses her film “Myra Breckinridge” – which had, gasp!, a (very tame) lesbian scene. I’ve never seen the whole movie, but Time wrote this about it:

“Myra Breckinridge is about as funny as a child molester. It is an insult to intelligence, an affront to sensibility and an abomination to the eye.”

Any one who is a fan of the song “California Dreaming” should NOT watch Raquel’s version. According to that video’s description:

“In 1970, Welch teamed up with Tom Jones and producer/choreographer David Winters of Winters-Rosen Productions for the TV special “Raquel!”, considered by some viewers to be a classic pairing together of 1970s pop-culture icons in their prime. Most of the stuff in that special is utter crap. If you want to hear Welsh sing something, she does a relatively good job in the one embedded below. We can’t expect our celebrities to be skilled in all areas of entertainment, right?

What video compilation of Raquel Welch would be complete without the infamous  space girl dance? Writes jackamo23 in a YouTube comment about it:
