Google thinks I am a male, too.

What would I have to search, for Google to think I was a female?

I was inspired by my new Twitter follow/follower Continuants, to investigate what Google thinks of me in their Ads Preferences.

My work gmail, which I thought was kind of odd. Drums? Clubs? PDAs? Nope. I don’t even write about that stuff…

and my personal gmail, which I sign into after work hours. Besides the gender, and the hiphop, it was somewhat accurate?

Corporations, Companies, and Supporters of SOPA

If this Pastebin document, created by Anonymous members involved in Operation Hiroshima, is to be believed, the following companies lobbied Congress in support of SOPA.

I smell a boycott… and the weird thing about this list is, how are most of these companies affected by online piracy? Especially all these clothing companies…

ABRO Industries, Inc.

Acushnet Company

Adidas America

Bose Coporation

Friday GIF-asm.

It’s the Friday before New Years Eve.

These are the GIFs I looked at, or used today.

From the Daily Dot’s daily feature, “The Morning GIF.”

I just discovered the novelty account on Reddit, Replies_with_GIFs. The following are just a few of the ones s/he used today.

One of my bosses was being … ah, a little annoyed with me earlier, because I keep asking about a bug we can’t fix. (Not our fault) So I found these.

and…

I don’t know how I found this one.

Media Update on the troll Tamtampamela

project 365 #17: troll dolls

Ugh. I did not want to update my wordpress again today, because I like having the picture of me interviewing Rahm Emanuel on my front page, but it can’t be helped. I want the world to know (well, potential employers) that I broke the news that tamtampamela was a troll (see my time stamp)…  Read the rest of this entry »

Rahm’s second fake twitter, followed (perhaps written) by Karl Rove

The original fake Rahm’s twitter account has been getting more press lately, following the real Rahm Emanuel’s offer of $2,500 to the author if he/she reveals him/herself. See NBC’s article about it here, and here is USA Today’s.

Perhaps inspired by the popularity of this fake twitter, a new fake Rahm Emanuel twitter was created about 5 days ago, @MayorRahmE. This newer fake twitter has a little bit more than 300 followers, and is significantly lacking the wit (or any sense of humor, really) and intelligence of the original.  The very first tweet on this new fake twitter is below:

This new fake twitter writes in CAPS AT IRREGULAR INTERVALS and seems to make fun of Rahm (and his ballet skills) directly, rather than indirectly like the ingenious original fake twitter.

Surprisingly, one of the original followers of this new, bad fake Rahm twitter is Karl Rove, or who ever is in charge of his twitter. Karl Rove does not follow the better, original fake Rahm twitter.

My ‘Druid’ self has been enjoying Lost at E Minor lately

The druid in me (yes, I played D&D) wishes to have these items:

a very soft carpet by a Dutchman, acting as art : the roadkill carpet (though perhaps the novelty will wear off in 24 hours)

these animalistic hairstyles by a Japanese designer

and, prints by this Arizonian artist. The bright colors, patterns and style fit with the 60′s styled black, grey, white, dark and light brown (monochrome maybe) furniture I have.  Some of his stuff actually pushes me to make my own though… Hmmm.

How’s this for irony:

Journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn,” Palin said in the statement.

pulled from WaPo’s “Blood Libel”, social sin and Sarah Palin

And once again we’re reminded that words matter. Communication is the heart and soul of American democratic governance, but there hasn’t been much fruitful discourse of late — among members of Congress, between the people and their representatives or in the public sphere. We need to get better at communicating not only quickly, but civilly.” – Joanne B Freeman, in NYT’s When Congress Was Armed and Dangerous

Umlauts and My Hungarian-American Identity

Special keys of a Hungarian keyboard. Such key...

Image via Wikipedia

Now that True/Slant is winding down and will cease to exist and I go looking for another website where I can spew my half-hearted written agenda, I have arrived at the very important decision of using the umlauts in my name.

Fruzsina Eördögh

Fruzsina comes from the greek goddess “Euphrosyne” but in Communist countries, being named after a god is frowned upon, so the “eu” was chopped off.

Eördögh alludes to the Hungarian word for little devil- like a tricky imp, a demon faun of the lesser order. I will continue to pronouce Eördögh in the weird French way that I do, because I don’t want to listen to Americans attempt to roll their “r’s”.

The Atheists are Doing it Wrong

Cults and new religious movements in literatur...

Image via Wikipedia

After having just watched HBO’s Friends of God last night, and recently reading Atheists  using blow dryers to de-baptize themselves, I’ve come to the conclusion that Atheists are doing it wrong.   On religious home-schooling:

“They are practicing child abuse in teaching that the world operates in ways other than it does,” he told the convention crowd. “And in my opinion, they are engaged in terrorism by weakening our nation and our understanding of science and things with which we can defend ourselves and progress. If it had not been for these fools we could have been at the stars 2,000 years ago.”

Cop shoots dog in the head on camera

As you might have heard, True/Slant has been acquired by Forbes and should be integrated with the company by July. I have about 10 days to post whatever the hell I want, so I will try to post at least once a day and, finish all the posts I started but never completed. First up on the agenda:

The below video is making the rounds on the internet (somewhat graphic, be warned):

[youtubevid id="tNyhyrNDOJ4"]

Video from part of the incident later was posted on YouTube, but it shows fewer than 10 minutes of the 68 minutes that Howell and Officer Jason Powell were on the scene.

The video is approximately 7 minutes long, so here is a summary. Two cops show up, and try to put a nuzzle on a dog hesitantly. The dog is afraid of the cops and their long stick, so runs around to the best of its ability (it is chained up) in an effort to avoid the strange cops. When the cops leave the dog alone for a while, the dog lays down.  The dog does not bark, or make threatening motions. The only time the dog tries to bite is when the pole is attached to its neck and it tries to bite the pole.

Near the end of the video, the cops succeed in getting the noose on, and instead of using their electro-shock weapons, decide to shoot the dog. Whether or not the dog should have been put down, for growling at passerby or chasing away people  (a guard dog doing that? unheard of!), these two police officers are royal idiots.

First and foremost, you never ever approach an animal while being nervous or hesitant. Animals can read your body language and will react aggressively. If you are frightened, they think there is something to be frightened of. I am willing to bet that if any of these officers walked up to the dog is a firm, steady and nonchalant manner, they could have easily put the noose on the dogs head.

Second, why were these cops so frightened of a dog already restrained, that they had to shoot it twice? In the head? This dog showed no signs of rabies. Dogs don’t just vocalize/growl when they want to kill you, they also do it when they are scared or excited. The dog obviously cannot bite any of the officers with the noose on its neck, so this excessive use of force just shows how utterly inept the officers are.

Third, why didn’t these police officers wait for animal control to arrive? Last I checked, police should only use their weapons when their lives are in danger. I didn’t see an officer down with an angry dog tearing at his  neck, or an officer bitten.

Fourth, don’t waste taxpayer money on “dog training” :

McNelly said his department is working with the Humane Society of Missouri on additional training in dealing with unruly dogs.

A single class will do. If I can approach large  guard dogs that are loose, restrain them to check their tags, and hold them while I call their owners, then a large male with a gun and a taser should be able to do it too. Or do these officers need some confidence and common sense training?
